This is the fourth book from Holly Jackson that I've read, the first 3 being the ‘A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder’ trilogy, so naturally I had a lot of expectations from this book. Some were met and some were not.
The plot is one of the amazing things about this book. The first part of the book was too slow-paced, the middle half got better with the investigation picking up the pace with the end half having the reader on their chair’s edge. Because I had read Holly’s previous works I knew that the book would get better with time but I can see how someone unfamiliar with Holly’s work would struggle. I didn’t connect with Bel as much as I did with Rachel because I always believed her innocence. I think it's safe to say that I did not see the plot twists coming because I was audibly gasping at 2 am and I love the fact that it did not end there and there was a new twist every couple of chapters. Another thing I adored was Bel’s and Ash’s relationship; it was executed perfectly down to every detail. The ending put me off a bit because of what happened to Sherry.
Overall, it was a good book ; not great but good. I would recommend to a friend.
